The Journey of Technology in America
In the mid-1800s Americans had little means of communication with others. Communication was done in person, via messenger, telegraph, or through the mail. This was a timely process, since travel was limited by horse or squeeze. Although these were a means of transportation, they were inconvenient because the horse was slow and call for care, and travel by train was corrupt making the railroad costly and unsafe for Americans. According to Bowles (2011) in American History Since 1865-Present|End of Isolation, the railroad industry was guilty of corrupt commercial enterprise practices such as including rebates, pools in which different railroad firms bind together to set prices artificially high (Railroad Corruption and the interstate handicraft Act, 1887, para.1). The railroads were also considered to be unsafe and a world-shatteringcause of unnatural death (Railroad Corruption and the Interstate Commerce Act, 1887). With Americas inadequate transportation, communication was limited release Americans isolated.
People did non have the modern conveniences of phones and computers, and it was not until 1866 that the first transatlantic cable connected the United States with Europe. horizontal though the railroad and the telegraph helped to unite America, isolation among the sight was still widespread, but they were about to experience the new engineering science of historied inventors that would contribute to ending this isolated way of conduct for Americans. Technology contributed to ending isolation in America because of famous inventors such as Thomas Edison, Alexander Graham Bell, enthalpy Ford, the Wright Brothers, and Herman Hollerith, and the birth of their inventions technology has been able to expand, and become vital to the American way of life.
