Autobiography by: Elie Wiesel

never shall I forget those moments which murdered my God and my soul and turned my dreams to dust. Never shall I forget these things, even if I am condemned to put out as long as God Himself. Never.(Wiesel,34) Elie Wiesel meant that he testament never forget how the Holocaust made him lose his religious belief in humanity and in God. The theme of Night by Elie Wiesel is loss of belief in God. In Night, Elie is taken to a concentration camp in Poland called Auschwitz. From there he was travel to a few different camps. The troubles he faced caused him to easy lose faith in God. The prisoners also stopped practicing their piety while they were in the camps. The Jewish people highly applaud their beat(p). After a while in the camps they no long-range acknowledged them as much.
To begin with, the prisoner stopped practicing their theology during the Holocaust. An example of this was when they did not fast on Yom Kippur. They did not articulate the Kadish either. The Kadish is a prayer for the dead. steady after Elie loses his faith, he clings to custom for as long as he can. This links him to a world outside of the Holocaust. For awhile, keeping to his religious traditions helps him keep his sanity.

Even though he tries very hard to keep faith he fails because the need to survive becomes more important.As I swallowed my ration of soup, I turned that act into a symbolic representation of rebellion, of protest against Him.(Wiesel,173) Elie meant that he was rebelling against God because He was not doing anything more or less the Jews in the camps. Furthermore, the prisoners no longer acknowledge their dead while in the camps. They forgot to arrange Kadish for the dead.
